Photography Guide

This page should get you up to speed about what we expect you to cover during the event as an official WordCamp Birmingham photographer.

General Tasks

  • Produce sharp, high quality images
  • You need to edit and post process your images. We want only your best images, the way you intended them to look – processed and exported as jpgs.
  • You should be able to deliver a certain amount of images, eg. three images per speaker (see below).
  • You are free to shoot in your own style, but we have some requirements what the photos should contain (see below).
  • We need you to tag images with names of speakers, rooms, etc. We will provide a list of tags to get you started.
  • When images are used, you will always be credited as the photographer, so make sure image meta data contains your details as well.
  • You must be willing to release your images under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license
  • You must adhere to some easy ground rules:
    1. Don’t take pictures of people that do not want to be photographed.
    2. Don’t get in the way of speakers or attendees.
    3. Oh, and don’t use flash during sessions, duh. 🙂

Schedule

Once the WordCamp Birmingham event schedule is finalized, we will draft a photo schedule and assign each photographer his/her position. Assignments can be switched, we just have to make sure that each position is filled at all times.

We are looking for a total of four photographers, for the two main event days at the 21st & 22nd of October 2017.

Sessions & Speakers

Covering Sessions & Speakers will be the main task.

You will be in the sessions and have the ability to move around freely. (Always make sure not to disturb the speaker or the audience!)

Below you find some examples of pictures we want from the speakers:

  • Portraits of Speakers
  • Speakers with slides in the background
  • Audience reactions/interaction

Our goal is to have three good images per speaker:

  • 1 close-up
  • 1 half-length portrait
  • 1 wide shot with an interesting slide in the background
  • Add some audience candids to the mix

Hall & Sponsors

You will move freely through the venue and look for interesting pictures. The main goal here is to convey the general feeling of the event.

We are looking for:

  • Interaction of attendees
  • Interaction with sponsors
  • Sponsors’ booths
